Laminate Care
A Laminate care guide
How to care for your laminate.
It is important to keep laminate relatively dry, as sitting water or moisture can cause the planks to swell and warp. Some brands have water-resistant coatings where this wouldn’t be as big of an issue, but unfortunately these products are still fairly new so majority of them don’t have this protection. Water spills aren’t a problem as long as they’re wiped up quickly, and not allowed to sit for a long period of time. Even though it may seem obvious, avoid dragging any objects over the laminate (especially anything heavy) as this will result in scratches!
It is also important to keep laminate clean, as dust and dirt particles under foot and other objects may scratch the surface over time in high-traffic areas.
Felt pads with an adhesive back are a great idea to put underneath the feet and legs of your furniture, this will significantly reduce scratching to the laminate.
A faily common issue with older laminates and ones that have been fitted incorrectly is that boards can gradually become separated, making gaps between planks. It is vital to tap the planks back together as soon as gaps are noticed to prevent dirt falling into the gaps, which will then make it more difficult to put into place.
